It’s okay to miss things

The old proverb tells us “Absence makes the heart grow fonder”. There is definitely truth to that. When we are away from that which we love, we begin to realize how much we truly appreciate it.

We have been away from church now for over six weeks as I write this. We have not had the Lord’s Supper. We have not had Junior church or Sunday school. We have not had the fellowship with our brothers and sisters in Christ. We have missed it all.

I Corinthians 7:1-5 talks about this in regards to intimacy between spouses. Sometimes we step away from that which we love for a season. There should be a heightened sense of spiritual growth though during this time.

I for one had grown to take church for granted. I had gone my entire life. Having grown up in a pastor’s home, I never had to wonder whether or not we were going to church on any given Sunday or Wednesday evening. It has been that way for almost 50 years in my life.

When we are away from it, we miss it. And when we miss it, we appreciate it even more.
